Made In A New Era: Making My Own Custom New Era Cap At MIA

Guess who has a new hat?? While hitting up the Made In America festival over the weekend, I was fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to hang out at the New Era bungalow and take part in their “create your own cap” activation backstage at the show.

With dozens of options and styles to choose from, I essentially got the chance to create a cap so exclusive that literally no one else has it. Unless, of course they choose your same elements…but I digress.

We each got a chance to pick a base cap color — I, of course, opted for basic black…

Next up, it was time to pick a bill style. Again, black for me, but an embossed, embroidered leather style was what I went for…

Now, the belt for the adjustable back. I needed to break up the black monotony, so I went with a red leather snake print and a gold buckle…

And of course a commemorative patch…

And voila! Here’s the combo I came up with. It was sleek to me, kind of like a tube of red lipstick and a black leather jacket. My mind works on it’s own wavelength…just go with my vision here. And just a few minutes on the sewing machine…

And ladies and gents, we have a customized New Era cap:

Of course, I’m not the only VIP who got my hands on one of these. Celebs fell through throughout the day to customize their own caps, and of course take home New Era’s limited edition Roc Nation 9Fifty snapback, designed exclusively for the Budweiser Made In America festival. Stars like Vic Mensa, Fabolous, DJ Mustard, Santigold, and Meek Mill all swung by the booth for their New Era swag — each mysteriously waiting until I had personally left for some reason…

I’m just happy to be cool enough to keep the sun out of my eyes the same way the popular kids do.
