Yeah yeah, I know. But you already know I’m a big-time pop music fan, so it should come as no shock to you all that I was ecstatic to spend the last day of 2015 belting out selections from everything from Songs About Jane to the present with my good friend LexiWithTheCurls.
I decided to make New Year’s a double celebration for both the calendar flip and my very early January birthday, so why not take a trip to Vegas to see if lady luck blesses birthday girls (spoiler alert: she doesn’t), and catch one of my all-time favorite bands? Needless to say, I had a much better time in the Mandalay Bay Events Center than I did at the roulette table, so let’s just focus on the positives here…
For the show, I opted for a long-sleeve American Apparel bodysuit and my second favorite pair of Denim & Supply Ralph Lauren jeans, with Michael Kors platform ankle booties, a monogrammed GiGi clutch, and topped with a vintage fox fur — seeing as how Vegas is FREEZING this time of year (a memo I missed).
I could say that Maroon 5’s latest album V is highly slept on, but that would be wildly inaccurate since it’s like 250 times platinum worldwide or something. So clearly a lot of folks who are out there rolling their eyes about the band are quietly clicking “BUY” on iTunes…but I digress.
Luckily, I was able to score some pretty close seats:
And was subsequently able to sing along to 98% of the words right in Adam Levine’s face like a complete dork:
The show opened up with one of my favorites from the latest album, “Animals,” then moved into mainstream smash hits like “One More Night” and “Lucky Strike,” before of course rolling into older favorites like “This Love” and “Sunday Morning.” I was just a little disappointed that they stuck mainly to songs with heavy radio play, but when you’re a major pop group with a catalog spanning about 14 years…it kind of makes sense to stick with what works.
Can you tell I had a blast?? I might have to make a New Year’s concert an annual tradition now…
