My NOLA Style: What I Wore To Beat The Heat At Essence Fest 2015

Big Easy style…

Essence Festival 2015 has come to a close, and I had an amazing time — and likely gained about 6 pounds from all the New Orleans food, and sweated it all back off in the intense heat and humidity.

Style-wise, even though New Orleans over July 4th weekend is possibly the hottest I have ever been in my natural life, this event is a bit more conservative and quite a bit dressier than what one typically goes for at other large-scale music fests. Of course, this one boasts the advantage of being at an indoor arena, and generally is geared toward a slightly more mature crowd, so it definitely makes sense. Peep some of the style Essence’s cams caught inside the Superdome. (Hilariously, I caught a glimpse of the homies Jess from GlamazonsBlog Lexi from LexiWithTheCurls apparently thinking they were quite cute in this vid! LoL):

Here are some of the options I went for while bouncing between the Superdome and the Convention Center:

Shortly after touching down and going on a hunt for some good “Solange Walls” to snap pics in front of with Christina from LoveBrownSugar…we found some dope blue doors instead on some street I could not for the life of me pronounce. (Side note — if anyone knows how to pronounce “Tchoupitoulas,” please let me know.)

I rocked a simple white Ralph Lauren tee, some basic H&M skinny jeans, and grey Guess wedges.

In the Verizon SuperLounge after catching MASE on-stage. I rocked this F21 romper with those same Guess platform wedges (which I apparently tired of and switched out for red Gucci flip-flops before taking this snap), and borrowed my homeboy Seto McCoy’s fedora for the night.

Walking around the French Quarter…those “Solange Walls” are everywhere! I took a stroll with hairstylist Seto McCoy, who had be cracking up as we got semi-lost attempting — foolishly — to walk through the French Quarter on to another residential part of town. It said it was only 1.5 miles away, seemed like a logical decision. After facing down death via heat stroke and finally giving up and calling an Uber, we were later told that “that was a very NY thing to do.”

By this point, the heat and humidity had whooped my ass altogether. So, I rocked a basic white undershirt, my right hand American Apparel Easy Jeans, and a pair of Chucks to get me through the day.

For Saturday’s events, I opted for a washed-out green crop top, Ralph Lauren Denim & Supply destroyed denim skirt and brown sandals with a moderate heel. Also paused for a few silly snaps with Lexi and Jessica at their beauty event. We obviously had way too much fun in the photo booth.

I was LOVING New Orleans! Can’t wait for next year.
